San Isidro, Leyte — Operatives from the National Bureau of Investigation-Eastern Visayas Regional Office (NBI-EVRO) arrested Emmanuel “Weng Weng” Veloso y Balmoria last July 29, 2024 in San Isidro, Leyte. The arrest was executed under a warrant issued for his involvement in a 2019 murder case.

According to NBI Director Judge Jaime B. Santiago (Ret.), Veloso is accused of the fatal shooting of Municipal Administrator Levi Aporbo Mabini on May 8, 2019, in Barangay Capiñahan, San Isidro. Following the incident, the case was moved to the Regional Trial Court, Branch 5 in Quezon City, where a warrant was subsequently issued for Veloso’s arrest.

Director Santiago praised the relentless efforts of the NBI-EVRO operatives, who conducted an extensive manhunt and eventually located Veloso. On August 7, 2024, the team successfully apprehended him at his residence in Barangay Linao, San Isidro.

Veloso was brought to the NBI-EVRO office for standard booking procedures. Director Santiago commended the operatives for their dedication and affirmed the NBI’s commitment to pursuing fugitives and ensuring justice is served.
