MANILA- In light of the ongoing unrest at the Taal, Mayon, and Kanlaon volcanoes, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) on Thursday continuously updating its Notices to Airmen (NOTAM) to inform and alert flying aircraft of the current alert levels and associated risks related to the volcanic activities.
In a statement, CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio said NOTAM B2003/23: Eruption of Volcano Mayon (CAVW 0703 03) N1315 E12341 Philippines. Date and Time of Eruption: June 07, 2023 at 6:18AM Existence and Horizontal/Vertical Extent of Volcanic Ash Cloud: 11,000ft Eruption of Volcano Mayon (CAVW 0703 03) N1315 E12341 Philippines. Date and Time of Eruption: June 07, 2023 at 6:18AM Existence and Horizontal/Vertical extent of Volcanic Ash Cloud: FL110 Direction of movement of ash cloud: Ash Drifting South to Southeast Air Route or Portions of Air Route/ Flight Level Affected: W9 and W15 Alternate Route Available: B462 and W8 Source of Information: VONA Phivolcs Remark: With accompanying seismic signal, infrasound signal, with camera visuals, 338 rockfall events have occurred since June 1, 2023 from surface up to 11,000ft. NOTAM B2000/23: Taal Volcano on alert level 1 (Low-level Unrest), flight operations are advise to avoid flying close to the volcano’s summit as airborne ash and ballistic fragments from sudden explosions may pose hazards to aircraft from Surface up to 10,000ft.
NOTAM B1999/23: Kanlaon Volcano on alert level 1 (Abnormal Condition), flight operations are advise to avoid flying close to the volcano’s summit due to possibilities of sudden and hazardous steam-driven or phreatic eruptions that may pose hazard to aircraft from Surface up to 10,000FT.
